Research Groups


The Geometry Analysis and Modeling Group

| We focus our research on a pipeline for creating real solid objects from an acquisition with a laser scanner, through the reconstruction of the object surfaces, and 3D printing and prototyping. The salient characteristics of the geometric shape are taken into account at every stage of the pipeline to guarantee the accuracy of the copy. We currently apply our research to the cultural heritage preservation.

The Manao Group

Manao aims at studying how light, matter and shape act together in synergies, at the convergence of Digital Optics and Computer Graphics. Our activities are articulated around four research axes:

  • Analysis and Simulation: Definition and understanding of phenomena resulting from interactions between light, shape and matter seen from an observer point of view);
  • From Acquisition to Display: Convergence of optical and digital systems to blend real and virtual words;
  • Rendering, Visualisation and Illustration: Development of methods and tools affecting the legibility in visualisation as expressive rendering and 3D object features;
  • Editing and Modeling: Edditing and modeling appearance using drawing or sculpting-like tools.
